Camp 129 (Jetlag) and Camp 96 (Jetlag Jr)
Buying our first camp April 1, 1983 was an adventure with many discoveries as we upgraded it to a home. Jetlag was built in 1938-39 verified by Life magazines we found inside of walls! There were four owners before we bought it. The people who we bought it from added the large addition on the south end in 1975. The first thing we did put siding on 1984 and then 1985 in fall was to remove the porch with it’s undulating floor, bathroom with sloping floor and replaced them and added a deck. Our next project was adding a large beam to give the addition floor more support 1987. Then in 1992 we did a full foundation. This also proved to be an adventure as the huge boulders had to be blasted and removed from under the house. Lengthening the project in time and money. Our last BIG project was in 2001 when we drilled a well August 30, on lot we bought behind Jetlag. We replaced the roofs and buried power line to the house.
Our second camp we bought from the state of Vermont in October 1984 as it was one that had been turned over to the state and was on leased land. This camp was built in 1975. No one bid on it when these camps were offered by the state. We paid $17,100 !! Then in 1987 the road was built and each property owner paid. Then the state offered owners the lots for $3500 and we bought ours. We put a half foundation under it in 1991, screened in the porch, replaced windows. Then in 1993 we brought our kitchen from our home in Bethel and installed them in this camp. We call this our sanity camp as our children use it and “visit ” us! Because our property has increased in value so over the years we set up a trust and transferred their ownership to our children with us having lifetime lease.
